Piezoelectric shock wave is a direct focusing method, and it has a faster treatment effect, convenience of use, and excellent durability compared to the existing electro-hydraulic, radial, and electromagnetic methods.

Over the past 25 years, I have used numerous shockwave units including radial shockwave and numerous focused shockwave units including electrohydraulic and piezoelectric units. I have found that the piezoelectric units provide similar clinical results to the electrohydraulic units. I currently use the MPACTVet® shockwave unit from Multi Radiance. Advantages of this unit include quiet operation, length of the treatment cables and the fact that the electrodes are warrantied up to five million pulses. Depth of penetration is comparable if not better than other units on the market. The unit itself is portable, allowing for easy transport to the farm or to the stall. When you couple this shockwave unit with their AlphaVet® or ACTIVet PRO® Super Pulsed laser systems, you have a versatile setup to treat a variety of conditions ranging from wounds to musculoskeletal injuries.
